What is Dental Cosmetic Bonding?
Everyone wants to have that perfect smile. But not everyone wants to go through the trouble of wearing braces or getting veneers or even implants put in. Luckily for such people, there is dental cosmetic bonding available.
What is dental cosmetic bonding?
Dental cosmetic bonding is a procedure using special composite resins which can be matched to the patient’s natural teeth color. This can be used to repair small damages to teeth like chipped edges, cracks, stains and spots on teeth, small gaps between teeth and even fillings.
In dental cosmetic bonding, if the tooth is decayed then the damaged part is removed. The dentist then applies an etching solution onto the tooth to create grooves which will hold the composite resin firmly in place. The composite resin is then applied onto the tooth and using a high intensity light, it is hardened quickly. This hardened resin can then be shaped, polished and buffed to resemble the other natural teeth.
Dental cosmetic bonding is very popular since the result is a tooth that feels and looks natural. Dental cosmetic bonding is also a welcome change from silver amalgam fillings which were the traditional way of repairing damaged teeth.
Of all the cosmetic dental procedures, dental cosmetic bonding is perhaps the least expensive. It is also done quicker, generally one visit unless there are several teeth. Another advantage is that not much enamel has to be taken off for the procedure unlike veneers etc.
